Today I had another critic. My classmates were very helpful and supportive of my ideas. As the semester goes on, I feel they have a better grasp of what I am trying to explore. They have suggested artists to me that have helped with some of my research. Today I was given many suggestions on the light, sound, and smell of my thesis. Aymann told me about paper thin speakers that han be stuck right to the wall. Kamil suggested heat lamps to help create a warm environment. These, and may other suggestions are going to help me later as I put the final touches on my scene.
Kelly O'leary also presented today. I feel that I cannot reveal too much of her project because the topic itself is secret until the opening. She has made lots of progress in her protography. Her thesis is about internet privacy, or the lack of it, and voyerism. She has been working very hard on keeping up with her "subject". She is documenting every step of the process on multiple mediums. I am confident that the end result will grab alot of attention.
Aymann Ismail was the only other person to present today. He has changed his thesis project many times. Out of the topics he has explained to us this one seems to be the one he is most excited about. It will be an anonymous autobiography. His opinions will be told from the mouths of other people. He has a basic schedule of how to complete this in time for the show. Based on his other video work I know he has a great sense of organizing his film, and a telent for editing. Im sure his final result with be really interesting.
I really thought it was great that you had such attention to materials while creating your project. I liked the idea of putting a brick pattern outside of the walls you are going to create. I feel that for the viewer, an extra experience will be created, where a person is taken out of their technology driven environment and placed into something new that is completely serene and paradise-like. Even though it was not your intention to have too much meaning to the piece, I feel like it adds some "meat" to the idea. Make sure when working with sound, if you do, that you stay conscious of other people's work in the gallery. You do seem to have thought about it quite a bit so i dont think this will be a problem for you. I am excited to see the final outcome because I know when we first mentioned the ideas, I thought it sounded extremely ambitious but you have sought to work effectively and efficiently to get as much done as you have so far. Keep up the great work. Your painting is extremely realistic and I am glad you have given some much care to each individual part of the environment itself.
